Contextual Practice #1

Which were the moments of this Contextual Practice session that interested/engaged you? Why?

The most engaging part of the session is when we did our research for other sources and examples relating to the topics we can talk about. The reason why I enjoy this part of the session is because it is always interesting to see what other designers and artists have done in response to a certain issue or topic. There is so much amazing and creative stuff out there to draw inspiration from, which is always a great thing to look into.

Which of the projects you were introduced to in the presentation made you think about your daily life and the journey you are starting as a Graphic Communication Design student?

I liked how in one article that I read the designer, upon making some animations regarding coronavirus, he stated how he is glad that his work can help cut through the noise and deliver a clear, straightforward message that can help people live out their lives. This to me is one of the biggest reasons why I like graphic design, because it can help other people in so many different ways.

What do you think is the value of exchange and interaction with others?

By learning about other people’s opinions, experiences and ideas, one is exposed to a new way of looking at things. Projects and ideas take time to form and develop, and each individual person can have something to contribute.

When do you think it is important to work in groups and share ideas?

I think when one is brainstorming or in the initial phases of a project it is important to bounce your ideas off of others. However, it is important to almost always receive feedback in any stage of the process, as one can never truly know how others are going to relate to a piece. You might be so absorbed in your own process that you don't notice something evident.

When do you think it is important to work individually?

If one has an extremely specific vision in mind, it might be easier to work individually initially. However, I am not sure if one can work on something totally by themselves all the time. Everybody works in relation to something else. However, the hard, day-to-day stuff, the nit-picky fine details of a project or whatever, one has to do themselves.
